By now most fall sport athletes are in full swing with their off-season training. To maximize your development and prepare your body better than ever I leave you with a few tips:
Train as an athlete, not as a bodybuilder. There is a reason why bodybuilders are the kings and queens of aesthetics and not performance. Breaking down body parts and training them in rotation leaves a lot of “food on the plate” for athletes. Train in ways that engage the body to operate in unison, whether doing total body training or splitting days between the upper body and lower body. You can still place a value on aesthetics while also improving your performance in your sport, which matters the most!
Prioritize your speed training! Many athletes fail to improve their speed because they are either way too late to develop it or don’t train at all. With speed and power deteriorating within 3-5 days it is critical to train speed once a week to maintain it at a bare minimum, and focusing on 2-3 sessions per week to see progress. Do not wait until one month before the season starts to prioritize this especially if you are an athlete who plans to change your body composition leading up to the season. Regular speed training will be critical to help you adapt and develop this skill as your body is doing the same thing
